Snellville residents Steffini Bethea and Dot Shaw are at the Democratic National Convention in North Carolina this week. Bethea opposed Brett Harrell for the House District 106 seat in 2010. She is a current vice chair in the Gwinnett County Democratic Party, and a co-chair of the public policy committe with the National Coalition of a 100 Black Women. 

This is the second time she has gone to the convention as a delegate. 

"I’m excited," said Bethea. "I don’t know how you can top '08 but I’m still very excited about going. I'm looking forward to hearing the speeches and the game plan for the next term." 

Shaw is a lifelong activist and member of the League of Women Voters. 

Former President Bill Clinton will deliver the nominating speech this evening, according to the Democratic National Convention's website. According to CNN.com, actresses Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman and Kerry Washington will also speak tonight.
