Emergency Ban on New Synthetic Pot

An emergency rule is approved by the State Board of Pharmacy to ban new mixes of synthetic pot.

According to news reports, including 11Alive.com, new synthetic drugs created to avoid a new Georgia law have now been banned by the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy.

A state law outlawing synthetic marijuana came in April, but since then some manufactures have altered the chemical structure so new versions did not fall under the law, the report said.

The April legislation, named Chase's Law, in honor of Chase Burnett, a McIntosh High School soccer player who died after using synthetic marijuana

The GBI asked for the newly mixed products to be included in the emergency ruling. However, the pharmacy board cannot make the sell or use of the products a crime.

That's up the state Legislature.
