Grayson Teen Dies in Accident, Man Charged with DUI

Brittany Sailors, 16, of Grayson, died in a Sunday evening accident on Graystone Parkway and Lakeview Road. The driver in second car was charged with driving under the influence.

Police officials say Brittany Sailors, a Grayson teenager, was the lone person killed in a Sunday evening accident.

According to Gwinnett County Police Department, 16-year-old Sailors was killed when she tried to make a left turn from Graystone Parkway onto Lakeview Road about 9:40 p.m.

Sailors' 2000 Mitsubishi Diamante was then struck by a 1998 Pontiac Bonneville headed westbound on Lakeview Road and driven by Mutajah Paasewe. He was later charged for driving under the influence.

Police said neither Sailors nor her passenger, 16-year-old Lacey Gowens, was wearing a seat belt. Sailors died at the scene, and Gowens was hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries.

Police report that Paasewe and his passenger, 19-year-old Dario Abreau of Norcross, were also transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Internet jail records indicate that he was released from Gwinnett County Detention Center about 4:30 p.m. on July 2. It was unclear whether he was released to another agency.

Officials at the jail could not be immediately reached for comment.
