Lilburn Man Fatally Shot by Gwinnett PD Carried BB Gun

The incident took place just before midnight last night.

According to a police report sent at 11:44 p.m. Wednesday evening, "officers responded to a domestic dispute call and were confronted by a male armed with a gun."

The incident took place at the 3800 block of Southgate Drive in unincorporated Lilburn.

According to a Sept. 13 press release, the original 911 call reported that a male with a gun was threatening to commit a robbery.

As the first officer approached the residence, he was met by Victor Charles Le, 20, who was standing in the driveway armed with a handgun, according to the report. The officer drew his handgun and gave verbal commands to Le to drop his weapon, but Le ignored the commands and walked toward the officer with the gun pointed in his direction.

The officer fired one round in response to the threat, striking Le in the chest. Le was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The gun used by Le was identified as a black BB gun.

Why don't the officers shoot the person on the arm or leg instead of the heart so that the thief is injured just enough to put take them under control? I don't get it.

Because that is not how they are trained. A suspect is approaching you with a gun pointed in your direction, you take the necessary action to stop them. Shooting them in the arm it leg wouldn't necessarily stop them. They can still return fire at you if they are limping around with a shot to the leg or the arm. If a person yielding a weapon and ignores the command to drop it but instead starts walking towards you, instinct says they are likely to shoot you.

We're spending way too much time on the cops doing there job versus common knowledge that when approached by a police officer...OBEY THERE COMMANDS!!!! BB gun, Clay gun, toy gun, water pistol, it doesn't matter, you confront anyone in law enforcement with anything that looks like a firearm you're likely going to be shot. The laws and media have put way too much pressure on the cops as it is they have to literally think before they react and a lot of cops all over the world are killed in the line of duty because they don't want to make a bad judgement call. I'll sorry about the families loss and hope this will serve as a lessons learned for everyone. My $.02.

Come on folks, look @ the picture of what went down. "Someone" felt threatened enough to call 9-1-1, a man is standing in drive way when cops roll up WITH a gun DISPLAYED, man is given a verbal order to drop said gun, said man makes the decision of "hell no I won't" & comes toward cop, AND he also is dumb enough to do so POINTING the gun at the officer. NOW we have folks "wondering" why the officer shot him ONCE & he is killed. Hmm, last time I checked the gun trigger finger still works when your shot in the leg, arm,...so what would make you bleeding hearts happier? That the cop shot him in the leg, takes a round in himself while WAITING to see if said "stupid" can still shoot & then lay a few more rounds in him. That outcome would really make sense ( NOT!) as you'd be crying "gunned down gang banger style" while we could be hearing about the officers viewing & funeral hrs. So instead of having to feel for idiot’s family, we'd also be sorry that a GOOD man who puts his life on the line for all our butts is gone & leaving behind a wife & kids. Do you really have that short of brain cells to sit here & say "why didn't the officer just wound him"? Would it have made you happier if the dumb butt had a knife? Oh! Wait! You'd be doing the same questioning of the officer wondering why he didn't check if it was a butter knife or a serrated knife....gesh...when will officers get a break from the "damned if you do, damned if you don't squads?
