Meet Snellville Patch's New Editor

As Joy Woodson takes over the wheel at Lilburn Patch, Snellville Patch is now in the hands of former freelancer and guest editor Crystal Huskey.

Hi Snellville!

My name is Crystal Huskey, and I'm the new editor for Snellville Patch.

I have been with Patch since March of 2011, just a few months after it launched.  Working primarily with Joy here in town, I have also written and edited for Loganville, Athens, Stone Mountain, Tucker, Lilburn and Barrow Patch.

I've met many of you out and about covering city events and new business launches, along with the weekly Wednesday's Woman column.  Some of my favorite projects have been a feature on autism at Pharr Elementary, the Sizzling Summer Weekend, and the series on Snellville Remembers 9/11.  I have a few things I'm already working on that I'm very excited about, and I think you will be, too.

Aside from Patch, you'll find some of my work in Our Town Gwinnett Magazine, the Foreign Policy Association and a news site based out of London, UK, called Women's Views on News.

My educational background is a little eclectic. My undergraduate degree is in Religion with a minor in music, and I am wrapping up my graduate degree in International Relations. My goal has always been to make the world a better place, and my degrees reflect my desire to know as much about the world we live in as possible.

I grew up in the Netherlands, where my parents served as missionaries. They worked in refugee communities with people from all nationalities and backgrounds. I personally went back a few times as an adult to work in those same communities; those experiences, as a child and an adult, have given me an appreciation for the diversity of our world and a passion to change it for the better.

My family and I have lived in Snellville for nearly six years. Both my children were born here, and I've made some of the best friends of my life while living here.

Enough about me! I am so excited to meet more of you and be an active presence in Snellville. Feel free to contact me any time at Crystal.Huskey@patch.com with news tips or story ideas.

Once I complete training the first part of next week, the system will officially switch over to me.  At that point, I would love to add some new bloggers, so let me know if you're interested!

See you around!

I think you are the perfect choice to take over from Joy. You certainly have the experiences and the personality from which to pull to make a great editor. If I can do anything to help, give a yell.
