Snellville Police Urge Caution When Being Pulled Over

In the wake of a man being pulled over and robbed Monday by a trio of impersonators, police want you to know what to watch out for.

Around 10:40 a.m. on Monday, two men and a woman in a black Crown Victoria used flashing blue lights to pull over a man in a Direct TV van and rob him on Highway 124 in unincorporated Snellville.

If you are being pulled over and have suspicions about the officer, Snellville Police advise that you check to see if there are PD markings on the vehicle. Occasionally, detectives will pull over a vehicle if there is a violation directly in front of them, but that is not common.

Snellville Police drive Dodge Chargers, Chevy Impalas, a couple of Ford Crown Victorias, one Tahoe, and one white truck.

For the most part, Gwinnett Police drive Chevy Impalas and some pickup trucks.

If anyone has a feeling that they are being stopped by someone other than the police, they should do the following:

  • Reduce their speed below the speed limit
  • Turn on the hazard lights
  • Turn on interior dome lights (if at night)
  • Call 911 to verify it is a legitimate stop
  • Drive to a public area

You also have full legal rights to ask to see the officer's police credentials. If they refuse, dial 9-1-1.
