The Sassy Stitchers is a group of quilters from Snellville-- and they want you to know that quilting is not a lost art.

Vickie Ezell shows her beautiful batik print quilt. Vickie made this from her fabric stash at home. Patchwork Cottage, a quilting shop in Lawrenceville, has a monthly "Stashbusters" quilt. "Once a month we pick a pattern and use fabric from our stash to make it," Ezell said.

The Sassy Stitchers is a group of women who meet every Wednesday at the Snellville Senior Center to quilt and to connect.

"We learn so much from each other," said Brenda Smiley, the group's unofficial leader.

The Sassy Stitchers started three years ago with six members. Now the group is 25 members strong.

The women meet to socialize and work on their own quilting projects (SOYO, or Sew On Your Own), but they also collaborate on charity quilts.

As part of the Gwinnett Quilters Guild, The Sassy Stitchers participate in Just For You quilts. These quilts are donated to Scottish Rite Children's Hospital in Atlanta, and children in the trauma center or those who are long-term or seriously ill are given a special, handmade quilt from these women.

The group also participates in Gwinnett Quilts of Valor. Last year The Sassy Stitchers made sixty blocks for quilts to be donated to American soldiers touched by war.

I enjoyed the article. All of them are just lovely, but I especially like the one going to Scottish Rite for the teenager. The colors are bright and is sure to make one's day. I hope to one day take the time and create my own masterpiece. Special thanks to these ladies for donating their treasures for others to enjoy.
