Weekend Wrap-Up: Hannah Rinehart, Paul Ryan and Meteors

In case you missed it, check out this weekend's top stories.

Welcome to a new week!  Snellville Patch featured a number of stories this weekend that got the community -- and the nation -- talking. Locally, the Rineharts' story took a couple of unexpected turns, while nationally, our attention turned toward celestial events and a potential presidential VP.

On Friday, Snellville Patch reported that state law prevented Mark Rinehart from receiving donated sick leave from fellow teachers.  However, as the situation unfolded, it turned out that the problem did not lie on the state level, but local.

As it stands now, Mark, a math teacher at South Gwinnett, has 30 days paid leave to be with his wife, Hannah, as she adjusts to her new life.  Up until Saturday, he thought he had 60 days.  This coming Thursday, Hannah's brother will speak during the Gwinnett County School Board meeting to request that they change the rules and allow teachers to donate their PTO.

On Saturday, the Perseid Meteor Shower and Mitt Romney's VP pick took center stage.  Did you watch the shower?  Tell us in the comments!

On Sunday, we featured a story from neighboring Loganville Patch about the soldier who lost his life last week in Afghanistan.  Friends and family gathered for a very moving vigil as they started a trust fund for Maj. David Gray's three young children.

Did we miss anything newsworthy this weekend? Any marriages?  Births?  Tell us in the comments!
