Engaging Students by Turning Blue

0 of 0
Kim McDermon, principal at Centerville Elementry in Snellville.

Students aren’t motivated, students aren’t engaged, or all we do is boring test prep?  These are the common complaints about getting students ready for the CRCT.  One principal is doing something about it.

Centerville Elementary is using the online test prep site Studyisland.com to motivate and engage students while preparing for the CRCT.  Students are challenged to pass content topics and earn blue ribbons both at school and at home.  Centerville’s goal was to earn 20,000 blue ribbons before Friday, April 20.

The reward for reaching the goal: a head-to-toe blue principal and a blue pop party sponsored by Bruster's for the top achievers.  And guess what? Today was the big day and Mrs. McDermon was COVERED from head to toe in blue to hold up her part of the agreement.  Even I went along with the fun with my blue hair!

Who says getting ready for the CRCT has to be stressful?  Who says it has to be boring?

They really did and Mrs. McDermon looked great! I thought she looked like Sonic!
And I'm now known as "Stephanie" to the kids! :-)) More pictures to come on Monday.

I had a doll when I was little - Blueberry Muffin (Strawberry Shortcake's friend). Your hair reminds me of hers ;)

love Ms. McDermon! My 16 year old had her when she taught 3rd grade at Cedar Hill ES. She's a wonderful person and puts education above all else with her loving and wonderful attitude!
