Stone Mountain Park features 15 miles of hiking and walking trails throughout the entire park. This includes the one-mile trail that starts at the Confederate Hall Historical & Environmental Education Center and goes to the very top of the mountain. This trail is very popular for anyone visiting the park.
There are many runners that use this trail to sprint to the top and back down again. Some people do this multiple times in one day. If you don’t feel you can make the hike to the top but want to see the view, take a ride on the Summit Skyride to the top of the mountain.
As much as I love the trail to the top of Stone Mountain, I almost prefer the 5-mile trail named the Cherokee Trail that goes through the woods, around the lake, past the Grist Mill, past the children’s playground and then over part of the mountain. This trail is a little more secluded and very adventure filled.
Serious Running has rated the Cherokee Trail as the top 27th trail to run in Georgia. Be sure to check out the appropriate map of all the trails that Stone Mountain has to offer to decide where you need to park and how long each trail is before you set out on your journey.
Besides the great trails that are provided here at Stone Mountain, there are plenty of other things to do while at the park.
