Go Scarecrow Hunting in Snellville

Here are five things you need to know about Snellville's scarecrow contest.

Earlier this month, the city of Snellville was encouraging local residents and businesses to put their creativity to work and make their own scarecrows for the season.

Those scarecrows are now a part of a contest, and the public is encouraged to vote for the best ones.

Here are five things you need to know about the contest:

1. Find a map of all the scarecrows at one of the 24 contestants' establishments. Grab a map with the family and drive around to check which one you guys like the best.

2. If you can't drive around town to view each scarecrow, you also can view them online at the Snellville Tourism and Trade Facebook page. You can't vote online, though.

3. Residents can drop off their votes at one of these marked scarecrow contest locations: Hill Top Pawn (Mon.- Sat. from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.), Summit Chase Country Club (Tues. - Fri. from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.), About Face Skin Care (Mon.- Fri. from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.), Ally's Attic (Mon. - Sat. from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.), Hamilton Financial ( Mon.-Thurs. from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.), LaQuinta Inn & Suites (Mon - Fri. from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) , and Snellville City Hall (Mon.- Fri. from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.).

4. Voting will take place between now and Friday, Oct. 25.

5. All scarecrows will be brought to the city's town green on Oct. 26, the day of the Snellville Fall Festival, and will be put up for auction to the highest bidder from noon to 5 p.m. Silent auction bids will start at $15, and all proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the Southeast Gwinnett Food Co-op.
