At the Farmers' Market: Tyson's Tata Troops

These ladies are doing more than just baking; they are cooking for a cause.

The has a wide variety of vendors, from Double Hills Farm’s premium pork products to Rasmussen’s local honey. 

One booth has more than just delicious fare for sale; they are baking for a cause. 

Tyson’s Tata Troop bakes pound cakes, banana nut bread, chocolate dipped pretzels and a number of other scrumptious items, but unlike other booths, they are giving away their profits.

"We are a team of Susan G. Komen 3-day walkers and we are raising funds to participate in the walk," said Patti Tyson, leader of the "troop."

Patti has been walking in the Susan G. Komen for the Cure marathon for seven years.  She initially walked in honor of her grandmother, who passed away in 1980 from breast cancer.

Then, 2 1/2 years ago, she and her mother were both diagnosed six days apart with the same condition.  Her mother lost her battle in September of 2009.  Patty, who is 45, survived.  In fact, her doctor confirmed that she is still cancer-free just Thursday, June 8.  

All seven members of the Tata Troop have to raise a minimum of $2,300 by the time they participate in the Susan G. Komen for the Cure marathon.  Many of the ladies are walking in the Atlanta marathon, which is scheduled for October 21-23.  Others are walking in San Diego and have until the weekend before Thanksgiving to raise their funds.  

All proceeds from their booth at the Snellville Farmers' Market go toward their fundraising goal.
