Great Escape: Progressive Dining on the Lawrenceville Square

Try a creative approach to date night this weekend. On the menu: relaxation, conversation and entertainment.

Any happy couple with children will tell you that you have to work date nights into your busy schedule.  These evenings permit valuable unobstructed conversation with your spouse. The problem I find, living in Lilburn, is that dining out is either comfortable at a nearby chain restaurant or requires a drive to Atlanta or Buckhead for a more modern experience.

Try a new spin on date night. Get the kids out for spend the night because my plan lets you take your time, sample diverse culinary dishes and enjoy live music all close to home.

Welcome to what I call: Progressive Dining on the Lawrenceville Town Square.

Begin at the new Niko’s Wine Corner for a glass of great wine.  Allow yourself to mentally relax and let go of your weekly responsibilities.

Start light at with some bread, antipasto salad and Chianti.

Next, it’s dessert first.  Stop by to get your dessert to go.  You can eat it later or maybe even for breakfast!

Then head to the for the much-raved-about She Crab soup and locals’ favorite Crab Cakes.

Finally, end at for their respected new menu item, Medallions of Beef Jack Daniels. With 39 beers on tap, a hot cappuccino machine and drink specials, the night just keeps getting better. Musical groups, including the Fair Oaks Band and Trailing Tinsley, are scheduled throughout May and June on Friday nights from 10 p.m. until close.

Your next date night will be a dining adventure, and you will love staying out late.  My only other advice to really escape: Don’t talk about the kids too much.
