'Jail Dogs' to be Featured at Snellville Farmers Market This Summer

Operation Second Chance places rescued dogs and cats cared for by jail inmates with new owners.

The Snellville Farmers Market is teaming up with a pet rescue organization this summer.

Organizers say Operation Second Chance, which places pets cared for by Gwinnett Jail inmates, will be featured at the weekly summer market series starting Saturday, June 7.

Operation Second Chance, also known as Jail Dogs, started in 2010 and is partnership between Gwinnett County Sheriff Butch Conway, the Sheriff’s Office and the Society of Humane Friends of Georgia, according to a press release posted on the city’s website.

“We are so excited that the Jail Dogs program will be participating in the Snellville Farmers’ Market,” market organizer Gretchen Schulz said in the press release. “They plan to come to eight markets, bringing dogs that have been rescued from the animal shelter, trained by an inmate and are eligible for adoption. If you are not familiar with this program, take a look at their website. It is an awesome program that rescues the dogs brought into the program and benefits the inmate trainers by providing them with responsibility.”
