Ronald Reagan Parkway Closed; Snellville Roads Are Icy

Locals are asked to avoid driving if at all possible.

Gwinnett Department of Transportation has closed Ronald Reagan Parkway due to icy conditions.

The controlled-access highway is closed until later Wednesday (Jan. 29), according to a news release from Gwinnett DOT.

"In general, roads are hazardous and drivers should wait until later to travel if possible."

Snellville Police also sent out a Nixle alert about the closing around 5 a.m. and another alert at 9:30 a.m.

"Snellville Police Department would like to stress to all citizens, due to ice on the roadway, stay off the road if possible," says the alert. "Roadways have become glazed overnight with more ice. Avoid driving if possible due to dangerous conditions."

The Georgia Department of Transportation echoed that warning

"Georgia DOT is urging motorists to stay off of highways as conditions are likely to continue to deteriorate until both the sun and temperatures rise," according to a news release. "The Department advises the public to refrain from all but such absolutely necessary travel until midday at the earliest."
