Georgia-Made Movie to Debut Opening Weekend in Snellville

"Stand Your Ground," which also had its red carpet movie premiere in the city, will be showing in only 15 theaters this Friday through Sunday.

Carmike 12 in Snellville will be one of the 15 theaters to show the Georgia-made movie “Stand Your Ground” during opening weekend this Friday through Sunday (Jan. 17-19).

“Stand Your Ground - The True Story of A Cry for Justice,” which also had its red carpet movie premiere at the same Snellville theater, is an independent feature film based on author Jackie Carpenter’s non-fiction books, "Bridge to a Miracle" and "Georgia Justice."

According to a press release, the story is a riveting courtroom drama based on a real family’s personal trial of faith against all odds. When Carpenter’s son Jason is accused of murder, she fights against the odds to free him. But when the prosecution seeks a life sentence, their world spins into turmoil, sending them on parallel journeys of wavering faith and tentative hope. “Stand Your Ground” is the true story of tragedy, trust and triumph, and of a cry for justice.

The movie is the recipient of many awards and accolades, including Best Screenplay at Los Angeles New Wave International Film Festival 2012, Gideon Film Festival 2013 Official Selection, Best Picture at Peachtree Village International Film Festival 2013, Bronze Best Drama at ICVM Crown Awards 2013, and Best Screenplay at Alaska International Film Festival.

“Stand Your Ground” was filmed entirely in the state of Georgia with a Georgia production team and mostly local actors. Several of the film’s cast and crew reside in Gwinnett, including lead actress Francine Locke, actors Robert Thomason and Chop Volpe, and executive producer Stacy Simril Robinson.

The film is showing Jan. 17-19 at 1:15 p.m., 4:15 p.m., 7:15 p.m. and 10 p.m. at Snellville's Carmike 12, located at 1905 Scenic Hwy. Actors Will Ford and Irma Williams and executive producer Stacy Robinson will be at the theater to greet guests, too. Watch the movie trailer and more at www.StandYourGroundMovie.com
