Get Out: Your Weekend Planner

There's a lot going on in your own backyard; you won't have to drive far fun this weekend.

Didn't do much for spring break? Or did you actually do something, but it ended up not being so great?

Here are some great end-of-vacation events for you and your family:

1. "THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK"

When/Where: Friday-Saturday, April 8-9, 8 p.m., and Sunday, April 10, 2:30 p.m., New London Theatre, 2485 Main Street East, Snellville.

Why Go: Get ready for a classic with this 1956 Broadway masterpiece about a teenager girl in hiding with two Jewish families, including her own. Even though the Holocaust play has been remade a dozen times, getting inside Anne Frank's diary and mind seems to never get old.

2. GEORGIA AQUARIUM DOLPHIN TALES PREVIEW

When/Where: Saturday-Sunday, April 9-10, noon-5 p.m., The Avenue at Webb Gin, 1350 Scenic Highway, Snellville.

Why Go: The Avenue gets a glimpse of Georgia Aquarium's new AT&T Dolphin Tales Gallery in a 75-foot-long truck with the complete transformation of a ship. While the downtown aquarium will have a dolphin-viewing gallery, theater and show, the truck will have similar interactive exhibits (but no real dolphins, of course), along with games and giveaways, all while the family can learn more about the aquatic smarties.

3. BARRY BROWN BOOK SIGNING

When/Where: Sunday, April 10, 2 p.m.-4 p.m., Community Room at Snellville City Hall, 2342 Oak Road, Snellville.

Why Go: Co-author of "Crossroads of Conflict: A Guide to Civil War Sites in Georgia," Barry Brown comes to Snellvile to talk about and sign his latest creation. An updated and expanded edition of a photographic catalog guide passed by the state in 1994, "Crossroads of Conflict" talks about battle sites, hospitals, cemeteries and more in Georgia during the Civil War. Brown is a member of the Georgia Civil War Commission, and Civil War memorabilia will also be on display at the signing. 

Pricing: Free, but his novel retails for $22.95.

4.: 101 SPRING EDITION

When/Where: Saturday, April 9, noon-2 p.m., Lilburn Cafe, 5514 Lawrenceville Highway, Lilburn.

Why Go: Organized by Sooo Chic Accessories, ,  Smart Money Chicks and Virtuous Styls, this seminar on budget shopping will cover tons of criteria: blogs about thrifting, accessorizing on a budget, shopping for expensive items, how to consign and, of course, makeup. Appetizers, coupons, discounts and giveaways will be available at the head-to-toe event.

5. REMOVING DISTRACTIONS TO ACHIEVING YOUR GOALS

When/Where: Saturday, April 9, 3 p.m.-6 p.m., Voices of Faith-Room 102, 2500 Rockbridge Road, Stone Mountain.

Why Go: Need to re-evaluate your life? As an interactive mini-workshop facilitated by success coach Natasha Davis-Bowen, Removing Distractions concentrates on effective decision-making, goal-planning and accomplishments. Attendees of the seminar will work to balance and re-evaluate their lives, manage stress and time, and create a vision board, all so that they can reach the road to success. If you're looking to professionally grow and develop a plan of action for yourself, this workshop may assist you to get there.
