Books, music, and oh, DRAGON*CON!

1. Decatur Book Festival

When/Where: Friday-Sunday, Sept. 2-4, 9 a.m.-6 p.m., various downtown Decatur locations, Decatur. 

Why Go: Check out more than 300 authors at the largest independent book festival in the country. Hear readings, panel discussions and lectures from authors of all genres, from children's books to graphic novels to sci-fi.

2. Craft and Antique Village Day at Snellville Farmers' Market

When/Where:  Saturday, Sept. 3, 8 a.m.-noon, Town Green (across from Snellville City Hall), 2342 Oak Road, Snellville.

Why Go: It's that time again for the monthly crafts and antiques day at the Snellville Farmers' Market. Catch one of the last craft days of the year while picking up that weekly produce. 

Pricing: Free.

3. The 47 Spot

When/Where: Friday, Sept. 2, 8 p.m.-10 p.m., PC Repair, 5271 Lawrenceville Highway, Lilburn. 

Why Go: Once a month, the 47 Spot takes over PC Repair with the sounds of Christian hip-hop and the opportunity for artists to network. This month, Adam and Belinda from Stone Mountain are headlining with Conyers boy Arek T. Loyal opening. 

Pricing: $3 per student or $5 per adult, or a non-perishable food donation is accepted to enter. 

4. Jazz on the Deck: Fundraiser to Benefit Horace O'Kelly

When/Where: Saturday, Sept. 3, 7:30 p.m., Village Corner German Bakery & Tavern, 6655 James B. Rivers Road, Stone Mountain. 

Why Go: Hang out in the tavern's biergarten and patio while listening to local jazz musician Sammy Blue, known as "The Crown Prince of the Blues." The performance is to benefit Horace O'Kelly, who needs a kidney transplant, and to raise awareness for chronic kidney disease. 

Pricing: A $20 donation is required. 

5. Dollar Play Day

When/Where: Monday, Sept. 5., 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Jump Oasis Party Studio, 1940 Parker Court, Stone Mountain. 

Why Go: Jump Oasis is having $1 admissions on Labor Day so the kids can play as much air hockey and Wii gaming as they want. Inflatable slides and obstacles are also in the play area, and $1 pizza, hot dogs and drinks will be available.

6. BONUS EVENT: Dragon*Con

When/Where: Friday-Monday, Sept. 2-5, various Atlanta hotels, Atlanta. 

Why Go: If you're not at Dragon*Con this weekend, then what are you doing? Here's just a taste of the highly anticipated weekend: the annual parade that features everything from Storm Troopers to Dumbledore to the GhostBusters mobile; panels with the casts from True Blood, Battlestar Galactica and more; thousands of people wearing the most authentic and amazing costumes ever; nightly parties; and tons more. Seriously, what are you doing this weekend that could possibly be better?
