New Artist to Display Work at Snellville City Hall

Melissia Fernender will have original artwork in the community room during August and September.

The Snellville Art Jurors, the city of Snellville and Mayor Kelly D. Kautz have announced that Melissia Fernender is the next visual artist for the Art on the Wall at City Hall program.

The public is invited to view original works of art by Fernender during the month of August and September in the community room at Snellville City Hall during normal business hours.

About the artist:
Fernender has fused dichotomies and contrasts into her sense of the world since childhood. Her influences are both classically American and broadly international. Growing up in the Midwest, she escaped into pop culture while living within the framework of entrepreneurial values of her immigrant step parents.
Creativity manifested itself during her teens. While in high school, Melissia started a custom ski wear business, creating designs and importing garments from Korea. She played the cello and toured Europe, performing with orchestras. Always heavily influenced and energized by pop culture, the exploding punk phenomenon in Detroit provided a platform to experiment with the expressive arts.

While studying Economics at The University of Michigan, Melissia employed her passions for live music, art and fashion as an art critic for Ann Arbor newspapers.
Her life in the arts has encompassed music performance, art criticism, creative writing, and fashion. Her new work in conceptual art is the incarnation of her diverse world view.

Artists and groups interested in having a solo show of their own at city hall are encouraged to contact the Snellville art jurors. The application and selection criteria can be found on the city website at www.snellville.org and you may visit the Snellville Art Commission’s website at www.snellvillearts.com.
