Snellville Celebrates 90 Years

The city honored its birthday with a cake, a song and a speech during the council meeting Monday.

The city of Snellville celebrated it 90th birthday at Monday night's (Aug. 12) city council meeting.

Former councilmembers, mayors and other city staff attended the session to honor the occasion.

At the beginning of the meeting, Mayor Kelly Kautz made a speech honoring Snellville's birthday, as captured in the video above. She also provided a proclamation, which was given to Tom Ewing of the city’s Historical Preservation Society. Afterward, Miss Brookwood Ariana Stringfellow led the crowd with her singing happy birthday as a cake was brought out into the council chambers.

After the song, a short recess was called so that attendees could eat the cake in the community room. The council reconvened afterward for the regular meeting.

The city also is throwing a second celebration for its 90th birthday during the Live on the Lawn concert Saturday, Aug. 24. The Metro Jazz Club will be performing on the city's town green in front of the city hall.
