Snellville City Hall Featuring Work From Local Glass Artist

Snellville artist Anita Jordan said she was destined to become the glass artist and designer she is today.

From the city of Snellville:

Snellville artist Anita Jordan said she was destined to become the glass artist and designer she is today.

Visitors to Snellville City Hall, located at 2342 Oak Road, can view Jordan’s art in a display case near the front entrance now through the end of February, according to a news release from Snellville spokesman Brian Arrington. The art, provided free of charge, is part of the Snellville Art Commissions effort to promote local art in the city.

Reared in a household full of creativity, her father was a manual arts therapist, instructing veterans in creating hand-crafted sterling silver jewelry, furniture and acrylic home décor accessories. Her mother was a teacher, seamstress and violinist.

After a series of pottery classes, Jordan’s artistic gene was stirred when she discovered her niche during her experiment with fused glass creations. She was immediately attracted to the vibrant colors and the fluidity of glass.

Jordan went on to further her knowledge and vigorously attended classes in glass cutting, kiln- forming, glass jewelry design, kiln-casting, mold-making, glass-blowing and flame-working.

After about a decade of experience in the glass-making industry, Jordan is now the owner of Benu Glass Creations, located in historic Stone Mountain Village in Stone Mountain.

“I produce fused and cast glass art that is decorative, wearable and functional,” she said. “I also produce works from PMC (precious metal clay) - primarily jewelry - but at times, I embellish glass vases and sculptures with PMC.”

Jordan has also exhibited her work in several galleries and has sold her work at various local art shows.

“Each work of art is custom-designed and hand-crafted - from precious metal clay and Dichroic glass jewelry to glass sinks,” she said. “As I take on new projects, fresh ideas flow and new items are produced in the process. That is what’s so exciting as a glass artist and designer, being able to merge the two together and do what I love.”
