Star Spangled Snellville Cancelled Due to Forecasted Rain

The event will be postponed until Labor Day weekend.

Snellville Mayor Kelly Kautz regretfully announced late Tuesday evening that the city's annual Fourth of July event, Star Spangled Snellville, is cancelled.

The Snellville Tourism and Trade Board made the call due to the high possibility of severe weather in the area.

"This is unfortunate news, since the fireworks are one of the largest events within the City each year," said Kautz in an e-mail to Patch. "However, with flash floods being forecasted from Wednesday to Friday, we had to consider the safety of our citizens, vendors and performers. This decision was made early in order to give time to our vendors and spectators to make alternative plans."

The STAT Board is planning a celebration on August 31st for Labor Day in lieu of the Independence Day event.
