Olympic Gold Medalist Eric Shanteau to Visit Patients at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta

Cancer survivor and Snellville native will also participate in live hospital television show.

Olympic Gold Medalist Eric Shanteau will visit patients at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) at Scottish Rite today between 1:30-3:30 p.m.

He will also be featured on Children’s closed-circuit television beginning at 2:30 p.m. for a live interview show, according to a CHOA press release. Patients that cannot leave their rooms to meet Shanteau in person can call into the show, ask questions and watch him live as he answers them.

He will also have his gold medal from the 4X100 meter medley relay in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London to show the patients.

Shanteau is a Parkview graduate and is a cancer survivor himself. He serves as an advocate for Livestrong and "works in broadening its reach, impact, and success in the fight against cancer, specifically among young adults," according to his website.

He began a program in 2010 called the Swim for Your Life Challenge in order to bring awareness of cancer to the swimming community. The event is held at Lake Lanier Islands Beach and will be held on Sept. 22 this year.
