Across the Board 'A's in Recent Restaurant Inspections

Results of recent Gwinnett County restaurant inspections in Snellville by East Metro Public Health with a synopsis of deficiencies found by the inspector. These are reports over the past week.

Name: G'Angelo's Pizza and Restaurant
Location: 2115 Main Street
Score: 91/A
Previous scores: 86/B, 59/U (12/28/12)
Deficiencies observed: Unapproved thawing methods observed: Pot roast, turkey, and raw chicken observed thawing at room temperature on the top of the pizza oven. Server is handling dining cups at the upper rim instead of the middle or base. Ledge under lid of prep cooler in kitchen is unclean with food pieces and residue. Ventilation unit in women's restroom for main street side is not sufficient in removing odor.  Back door is propped open with a fire extinguisher.

Deficiencies observed: Several foods have not been labeled and were held more than 24 hours (sliced turkey, ham, salami, pepperoni, and marinara.) All purpose cleaning spray is hung above clean tomato slicer at vegetable sink. Styrofoam beverage cups, napkins, and gloves are in boxes which are in direct contact with the floor. Garbage bag and other trash is placed next to the back door outside.

Deficiencies observed: Several 1/3 and 1/9 size plastic food containers are still unclean with food pieces after having just been washed and placed to air dry on the shelf. Rewash the items. All food-contact surfaces must be clean to both sight and touch before use. Manager pulled a container from the shelf to use on the prep line. Upon taking a closer look, the container he pulled had food residue remaining on it. He stated that a new employee had washed those dishes. Employee is not using effective cleaning methods and must be retrained.

Name: Sushi Avenue Japanese Restaurant
Location: 2118 Scenic Highway Suite F

Deficiencies observed: The microwave above the prep sink is unclean inside with food residue.  The doors and interior of the dishwashing machine are not being cleaned with adequate frequency. There is a thick layer of dried food particles accumulated at the tops of the machine doors and inside the machine.
