Uncle Betty's BBQ

I was born in Memphis, Tenn., so that makes me somewhat of an expert at barbecue. One of the things I recall most about spending summers with my grandmother was fun times out and about, and of course, barbecue ribs. To this day, my sister and I order up barbecue at most any place, just so we can see if it measures up to home. Usually it does not. It is very true that all barbecue is not created equal.

But, you can't be a connoisseur of tasty sauces and smoked meats unless you try all varities. Enter in Snellville. This barbecue joint has been around for a few years, and it is located on Presidential Circle near Emory Eastside Medical Center. I noticed it the other day when covering Run the Reagan.

I didn't run in that day, but I did look at the menu online. There are two rib plates, including a half and whole slab, which you can get with side items. There's also a pulled-pork plate, a pulled turkey breast plate, smoked chicken and a vegetable plate. The pork and turkey breast come in a sandwich, as well. On sides, Uncle Betty's has the normal fare: slaw, baked beans, corn, macaroni and cheese, etc. The prices are pretty reasonable, too. The whole slab meal is $20, but you can easily find a meal for $7-$10.

So, now that I've written all about barbecue, I'm hungry and may actually got get me a plate. Perhaps, I'll see you there.
