Bites Nearby: Chiang Mai

Each week Patch stops by a local restaurant to find a great place to grab a bite. Check out this week's pick.

Lots of basil and garlic and fresh vegetables -- what's not to like at a Thai restaurant? Not much would be my answer. And when it comes to Chiang Mai, even less.

Whether it's an entree or soup or other appetizer, take a bite and the spices tiptoe onto your tongue like dancers lining up in an audition for a musical. Moments later, the spices and herbs perform a unisono that will make you want to cry. Or cry for more.

Chiang Mai, named for the city in the north of Thailand, has an extensive menu that covers all the traditional favorites, from Pad Thai to green curry and more. And it offers Chinese dishes, including sweet and sour.

The last time I was there I had the Masaman curry. You can choose  from chicken, pork, beef or tofu, and it has a heavy, spice-dancer-laden sauce that will make you want to pirouette.

Chiang Mai is located at 4155 Lawrenceville Highway, Suite 4, Lilburn.  It's open for lunch from 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, and for dinner, Monday - Thursday from 5-10 p.m. Saturday from noon until 10:30 a.m. and on Sunday from noon until 10 p.m. Appetizer prices start at $2.50. Entrees start at $8.95.
