Eastside Medical Center Recognizes Nurse for Extraordinary Care

Elizabeth Long was named the November recipient of the Snellville hospital's DAISY Award.

From Eastside Medical Center:

Elizabeth Long, RN, was surprised recently when she was honored on the Joint & Spine Pavilion as the recipient of the prestigious DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.  Her co-workers were not surprised because Elizabeth’s nomination was the result of the excellent care and deep compassion she provides for her patients every day.

“Elizabeth is the sweetest, empathetic and most compassionate person I know,” says a co-worker. “One night, one of the patients was going downhill really fast.  We knew it wasn’t going to be long before she passed.  Before her family returned to the hospital, Elizabeth stayed at this woman’s bedside holding her hand, soothing her until the family came to say goodbye.  This was not even Elizabeth’s patient.”

DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The Foundation was formed in November, 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 of complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP).  As his family brainstormed what to do in Pat’s memory, the one really positive thing they could hold onto from the experience of his eight-week hospitalization was the skillful and amazingly compassionate care he received from his nurses. This is the primary mission of the DAISY Foundation.
