Enzo's Pizza Reopening Under New Management

The Snellville restaurant had closed in early August.

Enzo's Pizza in Snellville is now under new management and plans to open Saturday (Sept. 14).

After previous owner Tom Tillotson closed its doors in early August, Danny Gomez read the news and immediately inquired him about leasing Enzo's. It didn't take long for Gomez and his cousin, Arturo Urbina, to take over the spot.

Enzo's has had some highly publicized problems since late May. The Snellville business was temporarily shut down after failing a restaurant inspection and two follow-up inspections. The inspector reported issues with the refrigeration system, the cooking area being unclean and seeing cockroaches crawling throughout the kitchen and restaurant. Roaches were still found on follow-up inspections.

The restaurant re-opened in mid-June after passing a third follow-up inspection with an A, and it passed the next inspection, too. Still, Tillotson wrote on the Snellville Enzo's Facebook page that Aug. 4 was going to be their last day.

Now in the hands of Gomez and Urbina, the duo plans on completely changing the restaurant and making it better. They're adding paint and touchups on the booths; they've pressure-washed the whole restaurant, and an exterminator has gone through the entire facility, Gomez said. He's open to listening to customers, too, and has done his research online to see what people disliked and liked about Enzo's in the past.

"It's about cleaning, it's about caring, it's about taking care of people the way they want to be taken care of," said Gomez. "I love this business. It's a dream. Right now it's my biggest thing to make people forget about the past, so give me a chance and they will definitely be happy."

Even though this is Gomez's first time as a business owner, he has experience in the restaurant business. He learned the trade of making food in New York and was the head chef at La Nonna's in Peachtree Corners before taking over Enzo's.

As the head chef for his new restaurant, too, Gomez said customers should expect more than just pizza. Sharing similar dishes to what he created for La Nonna's, his new restaurant will have salads, subs, chicken wings, pasta, chicken, seafood, and many homemade items such as desserts and salad dressings.

The biggest change probably to come to Enzo's is the name, though. When the restaurant opens Saturday, it's still going to be under the Enzo's name, but Gomez said that's going to change soon to Fratelli's Pizza.

In addition to him and his cousin managing the business, his sister, Carla, will play a big hand, and his kids will help out, too. Still, the restaurant is looking for servers and possibly delivery drivers to join the pizza family.

"It's all about giving it that cozy feeling that there's a family here taking care of the place," Gomez said. "I don't want this to be a bar. I want this to be the neighborhood pizza [place], where everybody knows each other and everybody meets."

Enzo's Pizza, soon-to-be Fratelli's Pizza, is located at 3070 Stone Mountain Hwy. in Snellville. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 9 p.m.
