New London Theatre Meets New Year

After a rough year, the theater is glad to welcome in the new year.

In a special note to its patrons, officials said it has been a"tumultuous year," but that they were ready for a new year of programming.

"Thanks for all of you who have supported us this year," theatre officials said in the statement. "Without you, we could not continue to bring the high-quality productions we are know for."

Earlier in the fall, New London Theatre was looking at closing its doors for good. First officials mentioned the theatre needed help paying for air-conditioning. Eventually, theatre officials disclosed that keeping the theater in the best condition they could

Without the money -- due to the landlord -- by the end of October, it looked like Snellville's only community theater would close for good.

However, And, the theater announced in November that "we were able to raise enough to negotiate with our land lord an extension on past-due expenses."

Still, New London Theatre scrapped its original idea to produce Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat because of high royalty costs. In its place, actors presented a less-expensive show, A Christmas Carol: The Radio Show.

Fundraising efforts continued with a special holiday extravaganza, and now the theater nearly has made it to another year. Officials want to remind the community that as it considers year-end charitable donations to also think of them.

"We depend on the generosity of supporters like you to continue providing the best in the arts," official said. "Ticket sales are simply not enough to provide for the high quality performances and educational opportunities we provide."

Special sponsorships and memberships are available, and donations can be made through December 31 in order Membership levels range from $25 - $999, and sponsorhip levels range from $1,000 to more than $10,000.
