May Debut for New Verizon Wireless

The new Verizon Wireless replaces an old, unused lot on Scenic Highway, but it will force another site to close.

The new Verizon Wireless on Scenic Highway is forcing the closure of a sister location just one block away, according to a spokeswoman for the company.*

*Collen Murphy, a spokeswoman for Verizon Wireless, said "is relocating to the larger, more expanded storefront" at the new spot at 1937 Scenic Highway.

A construction official on site said the new facility is expected to be ready to open by May 14. However, Murphy said an exact time for an official opening is in flux, but that it is pegged for the middle of May.

The 4,500-square-foot building already is up, and the parking lot is completed. The inside still needs work, however.

"Also, since this is a store relocation, it has yet to be determined what hiring needs there will be," Murphy added.

It's been a year since the company received the , and before Verizon Wireless came along the site had been empty for nearly six years.

The lot was that had become an overgrown eyesore for passers-by.
