Restaurant Inspections: Brookwood High Visited; Japanese Restaurant Has Unclean Conditions

Restaurant inspections in Snellville for April 1 - 7.

Results of recent Gwinnett County restaurant inspections in Snellville by East Metro Public Health with a synopsis of deficiencies found by the inspector. These are reports over the past week.

Location: 3425 Centerville Highway
Score: 91/A
Previous scores: 71/C, 100/A
Deficiencies observed:  Raw philly beef stored above precooked ham and turkey in the prep cooler; 2. raw beef patties stored above lemon pepper sauce in the walk-in cooler. Raw animal foods must be separated from each other during storage, preparation, holding, and display. The employee removed the ready-to-eat foods from below the raw foods.

Name: Five Star Caribbean Cafe and Bakery
Location: 2226 Bethany Church Road Suite H
Score: 93/A
Previous scores: 95/A, 81/B
Deficiencies observed:  No paper towels at the hand sink in the preparation area. The back door was propped open by a wooden stick. Pests must be controlled.

Deficiencies observed:  Employee observed laying raw beef on the cutting board attached to the grill and raw beef juice was observed on the board. The employee later removed cooked chicken and cooked beef from the grill and layed it on same board with parts of these cooked ready to eat items touching the area where the raw beef had been. In use wet wiping cloths found stored in chlorine sanitizer that was below 50ppm. The person in charge remade the sanitizer to the proper concentration of 50-100ppm to properly store the wiping cloths.

Deficiencies observed:  Paper towels are not provided at the back hand sink. Lowfat milk (10), chocolate milk (14), and lowfat yogurt (5) holding in the counter cooler at 47F-51F for an unknown time.  Air temperature of counter cooler is 50F. Ambient air temperature of the coolers must be maintained at or below 41F. 

Name: Sushi Avenue Japanese Restaurant
Location: 2118 Scenic Highway Suite F
Score: 95/A

Deficiencies observed:  The microwave above the prep sink is unclean inside with food residue. The doors and interior of the dishwashing machine are not being cleaned with adequate frequency. There is a thick layer of dried food particles accumulated at the tops of the machine doors and inside the machine. 

Name: Yakiniku Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar
Location: 4002 Highway 78 Suite 400
Score: 82/B

Deficiencies observed:  An employee was observed loading dirty bowls into the dish rack then unloaded clean bowls. Raw salmon offered raw to consumers without a written statement from the supplier stipulating the fish received has been frozen to specified temperatures to destroy parasites. Must provide a parasite letter for all fish. Fish is on hold until letter is provided.
