Restaurant Inspections: Hibachi Buffet Raises Score; Food Debris and Expired Milk at Waffle House

Results of recent Gwinnett County restaurant inspections in Snellville by East Metro Public Health with a synopsis of deficiencies found by the inspector. These are reports over the past week.

Deficiencies observed: In use wet wiping cloths found stored on tables and cutting boards. The most current inspection report was not posted in public view as required.

Deficiencies observed: An employee was observed placing raw beef patties on the grill then used same gloves to place hydrated onions on the beef patties. Sliced tomatoes cooling since 10 a.m., temped 45F at 10:40 a.m. and 12:35 p.m.; hydrated onions cooling since 10 a.m. temped 49F at 10:40 a.m. and 46F at 12:35 p.m.; american cheese cooling since 10 a.m. temped 47F at 10:40 a.m. and 44F at 12:35 p.m. Potentially hazardous foods not properly cooled by effective methods (shallow pans, ice water bath, adding ice as an ingredient, etc.).

Deficiencies observed: Observed cold held PhF not maintained below 41°F; garlic ginger mix listed on box as "keep refrigerated" and vegetable soup base used in sauce listed milk as an ingredient. Items discarded and new product placed on line with ice. Ice not working to maintain food 41°F or below.

Name: Stevi B's Pizza
Location: 1977 Scenic Highway #H

Deficiencies observed: Observed multiple bulk food containers not labeled with common name. Observed unsleeved cups stacked on front counter at cash register (repeat violation). Third repeat of violation will result in suspension of the food service permit.

Deficiencies observed: Observed employees eating in food prep area(Starbucks).Employee advised to cease practice,wash hands and continue work resposibilities.Eating must take place outside food prep area and away from any utensil,equipment and disposable storage areas.

Deficiencies observed: Food-contact surfaces not completely clean to both sight and touch: Metal food containers and dining cups still have food debris present on the food-contact surface. Multiple gallons of milk (4/18/13 and 4/20/13) and small cartons of milk (4/22/13) are being held in use past the expiration date. Gasket of 4-door reach-in cooler next to the grill station is broken/torn. The left door of the 2-door cooler (for waffle batter, chili, etc) is broken at the hinges. Food pieces and residue are accumulated inside the dishwashing machine. Drainage pipe underneath the ice bin at the soda station (near the desserts cooler) is clogged.
