At least we don't have to shovel snow!

Partisan divisions are at an all-time high, traffic in Cobb County is about to get a lot worse, and the Falcons are the worst they’ve been in a decade. It can be tough to be thankful for what we have when so much of what we see on a daily basis is negative news. There’s always a silver lining though: Rob Ford isn’t our mayor and it isn’t -30 degrees.

Obligatory joke about Mr. Ford aside, this time of the year is one for reflection and thankfulness. In a world of instant updates and 24 hour news, it’s easy to focus on the negatives. Make the best of your situation, regardless of how hopeless or angry you may feel. Even if this year has been difficult, you can still be thankful (in no particular order): family, friends, food, travel, being alive, and being able to look towards the future. Add in the fact that I don’t have to count calories for the next month and I have a pretty positive outlook for the future.
Try to take time this holiday to reach out to family and friends. Join with a civic service organization and help out within your community. Donate to those less fortunate. The holidays don’t have to be focused on you or I. Self-pity and Thanksgiving aren’t synonymous. Save that for single men and women on Valentine’s Day.

So Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Holidays. I hope that everyone has a great week and has time to spend with family. Keep those who have to work Black Friday in your prayers, even as you sit in line at 4AM on Friday to score that awesome new Sony PlayStation 4™. You always have something for which to be thankful, even if you don’t see it at first.

P.S: If you’re frying that turkey, make sure it’s thawed.
