Snellville to See "The Eyes of Freedom"

Beginning at 10 AM Monday November 4th and continuing through Wednesday, November 6th, The "Eyes of Freedom" memorial will be on display in the lobby of the Snellville Police Department, 2315 Wisteria Drive. The display consists of eight life-sized portraits by artist Anita Miller, of the 23 members of Marine Lima Company who were killed in Iraq between May and September, 2005.

This past September, the "Eyes of Freedom" memorial was displayed at the Tim Stewart Funeral Home in Loganville. After my wife Kathy and I went to see it, we were both struck by the same thought-- we should get the memorial to come to Snellville. When we made that suggestion to Mike Strahle, the memorial's director, he agreed. Mike has a special bond with the memorial; he was a member of Lima company and was severely injured in an attack that killed six of his fellow squad members. He was also enthusiastic about having the "Eyes of Freedom" appear in the same city as the new Veterans Memorial and eternal flame.

Opening ceremonies will be at 5:30 PM today (Monday, November 4th). Viewing hours for the memorial are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 AM until 7 PM. For more information about the memorial, go to www.limacompanymemorial.org
