The Eyes of Freedom Memorial

On September 27th, an exceptional artwork exhibit will travel from Lawrenceville to Loganville where it will be displayed at the Tim Stewart Funeral Home. Known as "The Lima Company Memorial: The Eyes of Freedom", the exhibit is a tribute to the 23 Lima Company Marines and Navy corpsman killed in Iraq.

The memorial is transported around the country at no charge by R&L Carriers, and consists of eight panels containing life-sized portraits of the Marines and corpsman from Company L, 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, who lost their lives while serving in Iraq in 2005. During the trip from Lawrenceville to Loganville, it will be escorted by the Loganville American Legion Riders, and motorcycle officers from several metro Atlanta police departments.

According to the memorial's web site ( www.limacompanymemorial.org ) "The Lima Company Memorial, The Eyes of Freedom was created as a result of a vision of an Ohio artist, in which she saw the finished memorial and felt she was being asked to create it. With the help of the families of the fallen and the returned Marines of L3/25, the work was created and unveiled in the Ohio State House Rotunda in 2008, as the vision foretold.

Although the paintings in this Memorial specifically depict the 23 fallen Marines from Lima 3/25, it has become much more: a Remembrance of Spirit & Choice for all who have answered the call of service. Behind each portrait we feel the hearts and spirits of the thousands of men and women who have served, fought and died for their country, in every branch of the armed forces."

Loganville mayor Dan Curry is grateful that the display coming to his city. He stated, "Recently we honored those that lost their lives on 9/11 and remembered their families in prayer. Thanks to Tim Stewart and staff we may honor and pay tribute to all service personnel who have given their lives, and the many who returned home crippled and injured from fighting for our freedom. I encourage everyone to visit this memorial to one of the hardest hit units in Operation Iraqi Freedom, the fallen of Lima Company."

The memorial will be on display at the Tim Stewart Funeral Home, 670 Tom Brewer Road, Friday through Sunday, September 27th through the 29th.
