What’s Happening in the World of Wellness?

• Breaking painful news: Do women feel more pain than men? If you're a man, and have a girlfriend or a wife, of course they do!

Scientists at Stanford have done the largest study of its kind and found that women tend to report greater amounts of pain in a variety of diagnoses. Now it could be that women are more vocal about the pain they experience, and that men complain less. But some doctors think the study reflects ongoing problems regarding the under diagnosis and treatment of pain in women. So, keep talking ladies.

• Men who are packed full of a steroid called cortisol are more likely to be narcissistic. Yes, it's true men, they may have discovered a reason why you love yourself. Narcissism is a trait that gets some bad press because of characteristics such as, grandiosity and inflated sense of self-importance, but it does have a couple of positive traits like an abundance of self–esteem and a positive sense of self. The report goes on to say the physical downside of too much stress hormone is a cardiac risk, involving increased stress and high blood pressure.
  
  

• Are you interested in losing weight and becoming healthier? There's an app for that, but beware. Exercise physiologist Carol Torgan of the American College of Sports Medicine says people are making apps and they might not be certified or have any knowledge of what they're doing. We're not a one –size- fits-all world and that can be a problem. She suggests that you have fun and use them to stay motivated, but be careful or you could wind up getting hurt.
