A Tribute to Jesus

Jason Johnson, a Loganville resident, is walking with friends from Loganville to Stone Mountain this Easter weekend to pay tribute to Jesus.

As the sun rose Good Friday morning, Loganville resident Jason Johnson was beginning his mission to carry a replica of the cross from to Stone Mountain to symbolize the walk of Jesus to his crucifixion.

Johnson had hoped to have enough people join him to have at least nine others in costume for the event to represent Jesus' 12 disciples, but only seven others, including two children, undertook to participate in the walk. The distance of the walk is approximately 12.3 miles.

The small group left Racetrack in Loganville at 6:30 a.m. and by 9 a.m. they could be found walking alongside Highway 78 in Snellville, Johnson carrying a 12 x 8 ft cross, as a fellow walker, dressed as a Roman soldier, lashed him. By noon, the group had reached its destination for the day, at Park Place Boulevard and Highway 78.

Johnson, a member of in Loganville, began his Jesus Walks Ministry in 2011 to bring awareness to his Christian faith. Prior to Good Friday, he had already made the trip to Stone Mountain five times. He had also made it to the summit of the mountain previously, also carrying the cross. His plan is to make the return trip to Loganville on Holy Saturday and then walk up Stone Mountain Easter morning in time for the Sunrise Service.

If you would like more information about the ministry, contact Johnson at jesuswalksministry@yahoo.com, or find the group on Facebook.
