Bites Nearby: Provino's Italian Restaurant

Provino's is a local mainstay, where Italian cuisine makes its mark.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out.

Here is this week's choice:

Provino's has been an Atlanta mainstay since 1977. The restaurant group has locations throughout Georgia, with two in Gwinnett County: Snellville and Buford. There is also a location in Chattanooga, Tenn.

The restaurant's popularity comes from its "old world" cuisine, so if Italian food is one of your favorites, this place may be worth a try. One of the biggest draws seems to be the restaurant's garlic rolls and house salads, which are served family style. The menu features a variety of antipasta, pasta classics, seafood and dinner entrees of chicken, sausage or veal. There is also a kids' menu, a lunch menu and a dessert selection, including Italtian favorites, such as cannolis, risotta crema and spumoni.

In addition to being a good spot to take a date, Provino's also hosts birthday celebrations and other special events, such as retirement parties, anniversaries or wedding rehearsal dinners. Most of the Provino's locations have a semi-private dining area where these types of events can take place. However, patrons should remember that Provino's opens at 4 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. on most days. So far, Sunday is the only day the Snellville location is open for lunch time.
