Dry Conditions Prompt Fire Alert

If you were planning to burn any leaves today, don't.

Today is not the day to burn leaves. The National Weather Service has issued a fire danger alert for several Georgia Counties, including Walton and Gwinnett.

According to the Special Weather Statement, high fire danger conditions exist this afternoon and into the evening for north and central Georgia due to low relative humidity and strong winds.

Relative humidity values of 25 percent or less are expected for four hours or more this afternoon with northwest winds around 15 mph with higher guests. These conditions make for high fire conditions through this afternoon and into the early evening.

The NWS warns that extreme caution should be used for any outdoor burning. Only burn according to local burn regulations. Gwinnett County has designated Jan. 3, 2012 a NO burn day due to these conditions.
