Get Out: Your Weekend Planner

Festivals, plays, motorcycles and more this weekend in the area.

By the weekend, there is only a slight chance for thunderstorms. Make time to get out of the house and see what the surrounding area has to offer for fun and entertainment. We've got something for everyone, so no excuses.

1. 19th Annual SWAT Trot 

When/Where: Saturday, June 18, 8 a.m., Brookwood High School, 1255 Dogwood Road, Snellville.

Why Go: Run either a 1K or a 5K through Brookwood Manor and back to the high school. Don't sweat it if runs aren't your thing, either: There aren't any major hills. The 1K starts at 8 a.m. and the 5K starts at 8:15 a.m. 

Pricing: $25 per runner.

2. "Cars 2" Movie Event

When/Where: Saturday, June 18, 2 p.m., Borders Books & Music, 1929 Scenic Highway, Snellville. 

Why Go: Got kids that are crazy about the "Cars" movies? Children ages 3 to 8 are welcome to join a party of stories, games and more for the new "Cars" movie a week before it comes out in theaters.   

Pricing: Free.

3, "Megamind" at Screen on the Green and Movies on Main

When/Where: Saturday, June 18, 6:30 p.m., The Avenue (near Winestyles) 1350 Scenic Highway, Snellville; Saturday, June 18, 8 p.m.- 11 p.m., Stone Mountain Village Lawn, Main Street, Stone Mountain. 

Why Go: Two metro Atlanta summer movie series are showing the same flick, "Megamind," on the same night this season. For Screen on the Green in Snellville, The Avenue is having complimentary children's activities such as a bounce house, balloon art and face painting, with the movie starting at sunset around 8:30 p.m. Stone Mountain Village's Movies on Main will have participating restaurants giving discounts to those attending the movie along with the Walk & Wine (see above), but patrons are welcome to bring a picnic basket, too. Some restrictions, such as no alcohol, pets or coolers apply to Snellville's showing, so read more on The Avenue website

Pricing: Free for both events.

4. Bikers for the Masters

When/Where: Saturday, June 18, 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Killian Hall, 908 Killian Hill Road, Lilburn. 

Why Go: A poker run for motorcyclists, where riders visit multiple checkpoints in the Gwinnett County area to draw a playing card and try to get the best poker hand by the last checkpoint, will be held to benefit the Gwinnett Masters Special Olympics. A party bus, donated by McCray's Tavern in Lawrenceville (which will also be one of the checkpoints), will be available for guests to enjoy. T-shirts will be given to participants, and silent auctions, raffles and food will be available, too. 

Pricing: A $25 donation is asked from each biker and $15 for passengers.

5. AtlantaFest Christian Music Festival

When/Where: Thursday-Saturday, June 16-18, Stone Mountain Park, 1000 Robert E. Lee Drive, Stone Mountain. 

Why Go: AtlantaFest is celebrating 25 years of Christian music with more than 40 artists including Casting Crows, Switchfoot and Christ August, who was a 2011 Dove Award winner for Male Vocalist of the Year and New Artist of the Year. All of the park rides will be available to festival-goers, as well Christian living seminars, bible studies and a multimedia "prayer path."

Pricing: Tickets vary from $30 a day to $105 for all four days, so check out the various prices on the AtlantaFest website. 

Bonus Event: Walk & Wine

When/Where: Saturday, June 18, 6 p.m.-8 p.m., Stone Mountain Old Post Office Emporium, 5379 East Mountain Street, Stone Mountain. 

Why Go: An event welcome to all, Stone Mountain is hosting its monthly Walk & Wine with wine samples and pot-luck-style hors d'oeuvres, which will be served by the Stone Mountain Women's Club, Village merchants and other organizations. Bottles of the wine will be available for purchase, too.
