Updated: Tornado Watch for Area

Thunderstorms with the possibility of tornadoes are rolling into central and north Georgia.

Updated December 22, 2011, 5:58 p.m.: A tornado watch is in effect for the area until 11 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Thanks to the unseasonably warm weather and an incoming low pressure system, there is a hazardous weather outlook for central and north Georgia today.

According to the National Weather Service, severe thunderstorms are possible over north and central Georgia this afternoon. This includes a number of counties, such as DeKalb, Gwinnett, Rockdale, Hall and parts of Fulton County.

The primary hazard is lighting, and isolated tornadoes also are possible. The most favorable area for tornadoes, according the National Weather Service, will be north and west of a Columbus to Commerce line this afternoon.
