Heat Wave Keeps Rolling

Hazardous temperatures are expected to continue today, August 4.

Gwinnett County once again falls into nation's burdensome heat wave today, August 4.

A heat advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m.

Temperatures here, and across central and north Georgia, are expected to hover near 100 degrees. Thanks to high humidity, heat index values will soar to 105 degrees to 108 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.Β

Oppressive heat -- which has already claimed the lives of two Georgia high school football players -- will be felt all day, with the worst conditions in the afternoon and evening hours.

Thunderstorms today -- a 40 percent chance in the Snellville area -- will break up some of the heat during the day, however.

People are asked to take precautions, including , drinking plenty of water, wearing loose-fitting clothing and staying in air-conditioning if possible.
