Honor a Veteran on Snellville Patch

Do you have a friend or family member you would like to honor for Veterans Day? Tell us about him or her here.

Veterans Day is Sunday, Nov. 11. Most places of businesses, however, will honor the day on Monday, the 12th.

If you would like to honor a veteran in your life, upload a picture of him or her to this story with a description of their branch of military service and any other information you would like to share.

On a personal note, I have posted two pictures. The first is of my grandfather, Lloyd Davis, who I regrettably never knew. He passed away when my mother was fifteen; from what I hear, I would have loved him. He served in the U.S. Army with the Engineers Aviation Battalion during the Korean War.

He went on to become a detective with the Chattanooga Police.

(My other grandfather, Alfred Gamble, was also in the Army, but I don't have a photo of him to upload.)

The second is of a friend, Nicholas Buis, who I went to youth group with in Jacksonville, Florida. We stayed friends the entire time he was in the Army, and he shared his challenges with PTSD and coping with becoming a civilian once again.

He medically retired in 2008.

I would also like to mention the four men I got to know as I reported on homeless veterans in Snellville: Marvin Calhoun, Terence Griffin, David Sanseverino and Franklin Ackerman.

If you don't have a scanner, here's an easy trick: take a picture of the photo with your phone, then email it to yourself.
