July 2012: Hottest Month Ever Recorded

The weather has been recorded for 117 years; this was the hottest ever in that time-frame.

The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) released a report today stating that this is the hottest month the U.S. has ever seen, in all its 117 years of record keeping. 

It's no surprise, then, that the .  

The month was 3.3 degrees hotter than average, and .2 degrees hotter than the previous record set in 1936, a period known as the Dust Bowl Era.  Other factors contributed to the repercussions of that disaster, though, including "poor farming practices and lack of environmental understanding," according to The Weather Channel.

In the metro-Atlanta area, including Snellville, Aug. 3 broke a record for hottest day (at 99 degrees).  Aug. 2 tied for the hottest day with 1957.  July 1, 2, 5-7, and 26 tied or broke record highs in the area as well, according to the National Weather Service

According to the Washington Post, the past four years have exceeded records for warmest year.
