Patch in Review: July 24 - July 30

Hey y'all! Here's a look back at top stories for the past week.

July 24:

We will soon wrap up our look at first responders over the summer. Here's a Q & A with a firefighter who is part of the Gwinnett County department hazmat team. Read what he thinks about Snellville, the public and his job.

July 25:

Three suspects were charged in armed robberies at Barron's Fine Jewelry in Snellville and another store in Buford. At the time we wrote the article, police only had one suspect is in custody, but two others remained at large.

July 26:

It was kind of a long meeting, but by the end of the Snellville city council passed a resolution calling for an election to be held to vote for Sunday alcohol retails sales. The referendum will be on the Nov. 8 election.

July 27:

The African nation of Somalia is experiencing its worst famine in decades, and nonprofit organizations around the globe are stepping up efforts to help. Here in Snellville, one such group is the The Somali Children’s Healthcare Relief Foundation (SCHRF). See what the organization is doing to help.

July 28:

On August 8, representatives for Wal-Mart are expected before city council to ask for zoning changes that will enable the giant corporation to open a grocery story in Snellville. See what the fuss is about.

July 29:

South Gwinnett High School's Band of Starts completed band camp recently. And, Snellville Patch was there to catch the end of camp, and the band's first performance of the season. See photos and video.

July 30:

This week, we went inside a few police reports from the Gwinnett County Police Department. See why it is not a good idea to roll down your window and ask a random person for directions. You're probably better off calling 4-1-1 or the information folks at your cell phone company.
