May 22:

Not a lot of news on this Sunday, but we did inform readers of the Snellville City Council meeting the very next day.

We talked to local business owners about their thoughts on the city, and the city's effort to bring more business in. Folks thought the traffic was good in Snellville, but that -- to some degree-- the old-time Snellville feel was getting lost a little.

Patch spoke to Janice Warren, the newly minted principal of Anderson-Livsey Elementary. She will be leaving Annistown Elementary, where she has been a teacher and assistant principal. She takes over at Anderson-Livsey June 1.

May 24:

RealtyLink LLC, a real estate firm with offices in Duluth, got final approval -- with some conditions -- to bring a planned Verizon Wireless to an old BP lot in Snellville. City leaders said the spot has been "an eyesore."

Snellville Police Department alerted the public to a theft that happened from JoAnn Fabrics on Scenic Highway. A woman's credit card was stolen, and then used to make purchases at several businesses in the area. Police are looking for the suspects.

May 25:

With the last of the baby boomers turning 65 now, we interviewed a few local older Americans about their thoughts and plans for retirement. Some are continuing to have to work.

May 26:

Patch headed to the Briscoe Park to capture a glimpse of a family fitness event happening. Lots of families brought out their children to participate, and learn ways to become more active and healthy.

The Walmart on Centerville Highway is getting upgrades, and for at least month customers will notice all the work going on. About 75 peolpe were hired to help with the process. The store is one of three in metro Atlanta currently getting spruced up.

May 27:

She came to America not long ago, and she didn't speak much English and had no friends. Now, Aziza Mohammad is a senior graduating from South Gwinnett High School with honors. She is now on a path to become a trauma surgeon, helping children abroad.

Carole Boyd was killed in an accident, where police now believe the man was drinking alcohol. Boyd, of Snellville, was an activities bus driver for Gwinnett County. Her funeral was May 27.

May 28:

More than 700 students graduated from Brookwood High School on May 27. See photos and a story from the event. The school had the district's most graduating seniors, and its second-highest number of honor graduates.

Shiloh High's nearly 350 seniors bid farewell to their high school careers on May 28. The graduation took place at the Gwinnett Arena, and Patch photographer Raven Nichols was there to capture the moment in a photo story.
