Patch Picks: Staycations

It's spring break in Gwinnett County, so here are a few spots you can go to for fun near home.

Patch runs a weekly feature called Patch Picks. We will highlight editor and reader picks of great local businesses, destinations, services, organizations, ways to spend a day off, and more. You'll find these lists helpful to you, your family and friends. Want to suggest a list? Submit your idea in the comment box.

1. Stone Mountain Park: The park has definitely changed from 20 years ago. It's almost like a whole new world. For those who recall what it was like before it added more theme park areas, there's still a whole lot of nature out there. There are also a lot of fun things for children to do. Find the laser show, an adventure course, a 4D film and more. Click here for prices.

2. Panola Mountain State Park: Located not too far from the Snellville area, this state park is located in Stockbridge, Ga., not too far from Stonecrest Mall. There's camping, hiking, picnic areas and more. Children can also enjoy the interactive center with animal exhibits. Click here for pricing and other information.

The City Pass is valid 9 days from first use. Click here for more information.

4. Lake Lanier Island: This 1,500-acre resort provides a vacation right in Atlanta. There are cottages and villas, horseback riding, spa services, boat rentals, and more. There is a boat and craft show going on this weekend (April 2-3), and there is a murder mystery dinner night on April 8.
