Snellville Remembers 9/11: Chris McKnight

Where were you on that day and how does it affect you today?

Chris McKnight was only 8 years old when the towers were hit.

“Well I remember as much as was on the news,” McKnight said. “I was only in the second grade when it happened so like most other children my age I didn’t really know what was happening until a while later.”

“I remember watching the TV and being confused because of all the people that were crying and running around but I didn’t know why or what sacrifice had been made. I wasn’t thinking about all the people that lost their lives or about the fear that must have swept the country when the planes hit. But like I said I didn’t entirely understand because it wasn’t happening to me."

“My teacher Dr. Broughton was majorly affected because her brother worked in the building. By God’s grace he had decided to stay home that day. She sat in her desk in the corner of the room and prayed while the other kids and I kept playing. I had no idea how extreme the situation was.”

Today McKnight is an 18-year-old senior at .

“From what I’ve heard and from what I’ve seen even the thought of 9/11 10 years later makes people have sympathy for each other,” McKnight said. “It puts in people’s minds that we have to be together as a country or we are going to fall apart. “

“My heart goes out to the families and everyone who lost loved ones on that day. My greatest respect goes out to the soldiers and men overseas who took action and defended our country.”
