Community Corner

To Snellville, With Love

I began my journey as a Patch editor around this time last year. Now, that time has come to an end.

My family and I are moving to East Tennessee soon, and I leave you in the hands of capable, hard-working journalist Vanzetta Evans. Vanzetta began as the Lawrenceville Patch editor, after working in television news for nearly a decade.

If you know me personally, you know that I love Patch and community journalism. I have met so many incredible, inspiring people over the past year. Some of the most memorable stories for me include Mark and Hannah Rinehart's journey, Barry Ewing's athletic wheelchairs, the foreclosure, near eviction and, finally, victory of Parkwood Farms and, of course, everything involving Aimee Copeland and her father, Andy.

Some stories led to a change in my own life. I found new restaurants, like Purus Fine Foods, and joined fitness centers, like About Mind and Body and Ladies Workout. (Don't ask me how often I went...) I made friends and met wonderful people, like the volunteers at the Farmers Market, Southern Gwinnett Community Arts and the business leaders at the Greater Eastside Chamber of Commerce. I learned more about local politics than I ever cared to know and grew personally as I encountered points of view different than my own.

Thanks to everyone who invited me into your homes and lives to share your stories. You can always reach me at crystalhuskey@gmail.com, or connect with me on Facebook. More than likely I'll also maintain a blog right here on Snellville Patch.

Thanks Snellville!
