How Are Snellville Residents Voting in the City, County Elections?

As of 1 p.m. Election Day, Snellville City Hall has seen more than 700 voters cast their ballots.

Voter turnout in Snellville has been steady as of 1 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 5) for Election Day.

"We haven't had much of a lull all day," said City Clerk Melisa Arnold.

She said there has been a short line at times throughout the day, but the wait is never long.

More than 700 people have voted so far in the city council election for the three open seats: Post 3, which has Mayor Pro Tem Tom Witts and candidate Alisa Boykin running; Post 4, which has Councilman Bobby Howard and candidate Dexter Harrison running; and Post 5, with Councilman Mike Sabbagh and former Mayor Pro Tem Barbara Bender running.

Several candidates, including Bender, Harrison and Boykin, can be seen campaigning with signs and supporters at the Oak Road entrance of city hall.

Exiting the polling booth, a local resident said she voted for Bender, Witts and Howard.

"I actually have followed all of the issues with the mayor and that for several years now," the 37-year-old said.

Another woman said she voted the opposite: Boykin, Harrison and Sabbagh.

"I'm tired of the old crap of the old people," she said. "I'm just tired of the fighting and the old guard."

Christine Morrell, 20, voted in the county election earlier Tuesday. She said she voted for the 1 percent SPLOST.

"I voted yes because I want to bring more to my city," she said. "I want it to be able to go into the schools. I love having nice parks here, and that's really why I want to stay in Snellville."

Voting will continue for both the county and the city until 7 p.m. Tuesday. Check back with Patch later tonight for election results.
